Game Description
The Empire is tightening its grip on the galaxy, and a new hero is about to enter the fight! Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire puts you in the boots of daring mercenary Dash Rendar for an explosive adventure set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Join the Rebel Alliance during the legendary Battle of Hoth, blast through Imperial strongholds, and uncover a deadly conspiracy involving the mysterious Prince Xizor. With intense blaster combat, cinematic vehicle battles, and thrilling third-person action, this Nintendo 64 classic brings the excitement of the original Star Wars trilogy roaring to life!
From frozen battlefields to the darkest corners of the galaxy, danger waits around every turn! Pilot a Rebel snowspeeder against towering AT-AT walkers, navigate the treacherous asteroid field aboard the Outrider, and race through Mos Eisley on a high-speed swoop bike. When the action moves to the ground, Dash must battle stormtroopers, deadly droids, and notorious bounty hunters using an arsenal of blaster weapons and his trusty jetpack. Face unforgettable enemies including IG-88 and Boba Fett while exploring locations such as Ord Mantell, Gall Spaceport, and the Imperial City sewers. With ten action-packed stages, no two missions feel quite alike!
Think you have what it takes to survive the Empire's deadliest challenges? Hunt down hidden Challenge Points, master multiple difficulty settings, and uncover secrets scattered throughout the adventure. Switch between third-person and first-person perspectives during ground combat, conserve powerful ammunition, and use your surroundings to outmaneuver dangerous enemies. From rescuing Rebel allies to confronting the forces of the Black Sun criminal organization, every mission pushes Dash closer to a showdown with Prince Xizor. Developed by LucasArts and published by Nintendo in 1996, this Nintendo 64 console cartridge release delivers an unforgettable blend of Star Wars storytelling, arcade shooting, and action-adventure gameplay.

Historical Trivia or Fun Fact
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire launched in North America in December 1996 as one of the Nintendo 64's earliest major third-party adventures, arriving just months after the console's debut. Rather than adapting an existing film, the game was part of an ambitious Star Wars multimedia project that included a novel, comic books, action figures, and an orchestral soundtrack, all exploring events between Episodes V and VI. Its spectacular Battle of Hoth opening became one of the game's most memorable sequences, putting players directly into a snowspeeder against the Empire's massive AT-AT walkers. The project also introduced Dash Rendar and Prince Xizor to a much wider audience, expanding the Star Wars universe beyond the original movies.
