Game Description
Warrior needs food badly! The legendary arcade battle cry returns as Gauntlet Legends unleashes a monster-filled fantasy adventure on the Nintendo 64! When the power-hungry wizard Garm summons the terrifying demon Skorne, an ancient evil threatens to plunge the realms into darkness. Only a band of fearless heroes can recover the scattered Runestones and defeat the demonic overlord. Choose your champion, storm through sinister dungeons, and blast hordes of undead warriors, monstrous creatures, and supernatural enemies. With relentless hack-and-slash combat, magical treasures, and classic arcade excitement, the legendary Gauntlet experience has never felt so adventurous!
Every hero has a different way of sending evil back to the shadows! Choose the mighty Warrior, agile Valkyrie, swift Archer, or spellcasting Wizard, each armed with distinctive attacks and abilities. Venture through haunted castles, dangerous mountain passages, and other mysterious environments while collecting treasure, discovering secret passages, and battling enormous bosses. Defeat enemies to earn experience, improve your character's abilities, and purchase useful items from Sumner's shop. With character progression, hidden collectibles, and powerful magical attacks, this Nintendo 64 action-adventure dungeon crawler delivers a rewarding quest far beyond a simple arcade beat-'em-up.
The real magic begins when heroes join forces! Fight through sprawling kingdoms, unleash devastating magic, and work together to survive overwhelming enemy attacks in the game's celebrated cooperative adventure. Search for legendary Runestones, unlock hidden characters, and confront increasingly dangerous guardians as you journey toward Skorne's stronghold. Developed by Atari Games and published by Midway in 1999, this Nintendo 64 console cartridge release expands the classic Gauntlet formula with new environments, inventory management, and memorable fantasy challenges. For collectors seeking a Gauntlet Legends Nintendo 64 game, it's a nostalgic dungeon-crawling adventure overflowing with monsters, magic, and arcade thrills!

- Expansion Pak Required: Yes, for three- and four-player cooperative gameplay; not required for one or two players.
- With Expansion Pak: Supports the complete four-player cooperative experience, allowing up to four heroes to battle together.
- Without Expansion Pak: The adventure remains playable with one or two players, but three- and four-player modes are unavailable.
Not sure if you have an Expansion Pak? With your Nintendo 64 powered off and unplugged, check beneath the Memory Expansion cover on top of the console. The Expansion Pak is identifiable by its distinctive red-topped module.
Nintendo 64 Controller Pak Requirement — Saving Your Game
Gauntlet Legends uses a Nintendo 64 Controller Pak (Memory Card) to save character development and adventure progress. A compatible Controller Pak is required to save your progress between gaming sessions. The game can still be played without one, but your progress cannot be saved.
Historical Trivia or Fun Fact
Gauntlet Legends originated in arcades in 1998 as Atari Games' ambitious 3D revival of the classic Gauntlet series, which began with the groundbreaking four-player arcade hit in 1985. When the adventure reached the Nintendo 64 in 1999, Atari Games expanded the experience with three additional worlds, new playable characters, an inventory system, and character-saving functionality, creating a more substantial home-console quest. In a contemporary interview, Atari producer Scot Amos explained that the Nintendo 64 engine was built to accommodate four heroes alongside numerous enemies and magical effects, making cooperative play a major technical priority. The result was a distinctive home adaptation that preserved the original series' frantic dungeon battles while adding deeper progression and exploration.
