Accessory Description
Connecting older video game consoles and classic AV equipment to a modern television doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. This Universal RCA AV to HDMI Adapter converts standard yellow, red, and white composite RCA signals into an HDMI output, allowing older devices to connect to HDTVs and monitors equipped with HDMI inputs. A practical, budget-friendly connection solution for retro gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and other compatible composite video devices when traditional RCA inputs are no longer available on your television.
Setup is straightforward โ connect your console or device's existing RCA composite AV cables to the adapter, attach your own HDMI cable between the converter and television, and supply power using the included USB power cable connected to a 5V USB power source, such as a compatible TV USB port or USB wall adapter. No drivers or special software are needed. This converter works with composite-output systems such as the NES, SNES, Nintendo 64 (N64), GameCube, Wii, Sega Master System, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, PlayStation 1 (PS1), PlayStation 2 (PS2), and Original Xbox, provided the appropriate RCA composite cables are used.
Important: HDMI and RCA AV cables are not included and must be supplied separately.
Designed as a basic low-cost AV-to-HDMI connection solution rather than a premium video upscaler, this adapter does not improve or upscale picture detail, eliminate composite video blur, or magically sharpen older graphics. Picture quality remains limited by the original composite signal, and images may appear soft or less defined on larger modern HDTVs. It's a convenient, low-cost option for casual retro gaming, testing older consoles, watching VHS tapes, or getting classic equipment working on a modern display without investing in specialized video hardware.
Looking for better picture quality? Retro Game Fan also carries upgraded HDMI adapter cables in our Cables & Adapters section that use higher-quality video signals from compatible consoles for cleaner, sharper results.
