Game Description
.hack//MUTATION continues the layered narrative of the .hack saga on PlayStation 2, deepening the mystery behind the comas plaguing players of The World. You again step into the role of Kite, carrying choices and power from the first entry as you press forward against ever-escalating threats. With the administrators of the game watching closely and cryptic messages surfacing, each server you log into could hold new secrets or dangers.
The gameplay refines the “game within a game” illusion: the desktop hub returns with BBS posts, e-mails, and news updates that reveal clues to mysteries inside The World. As battles intensify, Kite and allies use enhanced Data Drain and Gate Hacking mechanics to navigate corrupted monsters and locked zones across multiple servers. The second chapter introduces stronger AI control of party members, expanded item systems, and fresh playable areas inaccessible in Part 1.
Packaged with a special .hack//Liminality DVD episode that complements the in-game narrative, MUTATION strengthens the cross-media storytelling ambition of the franchise.
