Game Description

Two years have passed since the events of Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version, and the Unova region has been transformed in Pokémon White Version 2. Begin your new adventure in Aspertia City, explore areas that didn't exist in the original games, and reunite with familiar faces whose lives have changed since the first Unova journey. With Team Plasma once again threatening the region and the Legendary White Kyurem looming over the story, this isn't a repeat trip through Unova—it's the next chapter.

White 2 opens the Pokémon RPG experience to a much broader selection of creatures from across the series, giving you access to Pokémon such as Eevee, Riolu, Mareep, Arcanine, and Tyranitar much earlier in the adventure. There's plenty to do outside the Gym challenge, too: make your own movies at Pokéstar Studios, build up shops along Join Avenue, collect more than 250 Medals, and challenge the Pokémon World Tournament against famous Gym Leaders and Champions from previous regions. The Key System even lets experienced Trainers adjust certain difficulty settings and unlock additional challenges.

For collectors, Pokémon White Version 2 occupies a unique place in the Nintendo DS Pokémon library because it is part of the franchise's first true mainline sequel experiment. Its story directly follows Black and White, its version-exclusive White Kyurem gives the game a distinct Legendary identity, and its transformed Unova provides familiar locations with new stories and surprises. Add the expanded Pokédex, Pokéstar Studios, Pokémon World Tournament, Medal System, and Memory Link features, and White 2 becomes a particularly substantial physical release for fans collecting the Generation V era.

Gameplay Features

  • Begin in Aspertia City and explore a transformed Unova two years after the original Black and White adventure.
  • Build teams with Pokémon from earlier generations, including Eevee, Riolu, Mareep, and Arcanine.
  • Create your own movies at Pokéstar Studios, choosing scripts and battle sequences before seeing the audience's reaction.
  • Battle famous Gym Leaders and Champions from previous regions in the Pokémon World Tournament.
  • Collect more than 250 Medals by completing exploration, training, connectivity, and achievement-based challenges.
  • Use the Memory Link feature to connect with Pokémon Black or White save data and uncover additional events from Unova's past.

Legacy and Influence

Pokémon White Version 2 helped establish a new possibility for the mainline Pokémon series: continuing an existing adventure rather than simply revisiting it in an enhanced third version. The two-year time jump allowed Game Freak to change familiar characters, reshape locations, introduce new areas, and build a story around the consequences of the original Unova adventure. Cheren and Bianca return in new roles, while the upgraded Pokédex and expanded Pokémon selection give the sequel a very different team-building experience from Black and White.

The sequel also broadened the idea of what players could do after leaving the Gym circuit behind. Pokéstar Studios, Join Avenue, the Medal System, Pokémon World Tournament, Key System, and Memory Link created an unusually large collection of side content around the central adventure. The Pokémon World Tournament was particularly notable for bringing Gym Leaders and Champions from earlier regions together, effectively turning Pokémon history itself into a playable battle event.

Historical Trivia or Fun Fact

Pokémon White Version 2 was released in Japan in June 2012 before arriving in North America and Europe later that year, and it marked the first time a core Pokémon storyline continued directly from one game release into another. White 2 features the Legendary White Kyurem, which has the exclusive Ice-type signature move Ice Burn, while its version counterpart Black 2 features Black Kyurem and Freeze Shock. The game also introduced Memory Link, allowing players with the original Black or White save data to unlock additional story events that fill in what happened during the two-year gap.
