Game Description

Ground Zero Texas is a pulse-pounding full-motion video (FMV) shooter set in the eerie border town of El Cadron, Texas. You step into the shoes of a covert operative, tasked with monitoring four “BattleCam” feeds and firing stun weapons at alien invaders disguised as humans. With 110 minutes of interactive video footage, the game unfolds in near real time—caught between suspenseful surveillance and high-stakes action as you race against time to stop a looming invasion.

Gameplay revolves around fast-paced camera switching and split-second target recognition. You’ll zap aliens trying to abduct agents, crack secret codes to access hidden labs, and fend off waves of enemies—including a dramatic on-rails sequence atop the mothership. Though it’s played entirely via controller, the cinematic video quality (despite Sega CD’s 64-color limit) delivers an immersive cinematic experience worthy of a sci-fi thriller.

Gameplay Features

  • Over 110 minutes of real actors and Hollywood-level film production shot on location in Texas
  • Four BattleCams with real-time camera switching—zap aliens before they abduct agents or civilians
  • Puzzle-shooter hybrid: stun aliens, gather codes from special agents, and unlock secret areas
  • On-rails gunship finale atop an alien mothership—dynamic, adrenaline-pumping climax
  • Controller-only FMV gameplay—no light gun required, but tight timing is still essential

Historical Trivia or Fun Fact

This was one of Digital Pictures' most ambitious FMV projects, directed by Hollywood veteran Dwight H. Little and shot entirely on location in Texas with a full film crew. Though criticized for its low-budget acting and repetitive gameplay, it nonetheless topped CD game charts in the UK and earned “Sega CD Game of the Year” honors in 1994. It was also the first Sega CD title to exceed 100 minutes of video footage—pushing both narrative and technical limits of the hardware.

For collectors, this is a high-demand title—especially in complete-in-box condition. The unique BattleCam hardware interface, cinematic production values, and limited run make it a standout piece of Sega CD history.
