Game Description

Steel giants clash, missiles tear across the battlefield, and a bitter war threatens to consume an entire island! In Front Mission, the year is 2090, and tensions between two powerful military alliances have erupted into open conflict on Huffman Island. Follow former soldier Royd Clive as he joins the Canyon Crows mercenary unit, searching for answers about his missing fiancée amid a dangerous web of military secrets and political intrigue. This turn-based tactical role-playing game (Tactical RPG) for Nintendo DS puts you in command of heavily armed walking war machines known as Wanzers, where every decision carries battlefield consequences.

Forget ordinary tanks—your greatest weapons are towering, fully customizable combat machines! Build and equip your own Wanzers by combining interchangeable bodies, arms, legs, computers, and weapon systems, creating specialized units for different tactical situations. Outfit your squad with machine guns, missile launchers, shotguns, and devastating melee weapons, then deploy them across grid-based battlefields where terrain, positioning, and careful planning determine the outcome. With individual mech-part targeting, you can disable an enemy's weapon arm, cripple its mobility, or destroy its body outright. This physical Nintendo DS cartridge delivers deep military strategy with satisfying mechanical customization.

Two opposing armies. Two sides of the same war. Experience the conflict from dramatically different perspectives through dual story campaigns featuring Royd Clive of the Oceania Cooperative Union (O.C.U.) and Kevin Greenfield of the United Continental States (U.C.S.). Between missions, visit military shops to upgrade your machines, recruit additional pilots, and enter the Arena to earn extra funds for your next deployment. The Nintendo DS edition expands the original adventure with additional missions, characters, equipment, and touchscreen controls. For longtime Square Enix fans and tactical RPG enthusiasts, Front Mission delivers a compelling combination of military drama, strategic combat, and remarkably detailed mech customization.

Historical Trivia or Fun Fact

Front Mission originated on Japan's Super Famicom in 1995, introducing Square's distinctive blend of military science fiction and tactical RPG combat, but the original game did not receive an official North American release until this Nintendo DS adaptation arrived in October 2007. Based on the expanded 2003 PlayStation edition known as Front Mission 1st, the DS version includes both the O.C.U. and U.C.S. campaigns, additional missions, and appearances by characters from other entries in the franchise. The series was created by Toshiro Tsuchida, while the original game's music featured contributions from composers Yoko Shimomura and Noriko Matsueda, giving this handheld release a direct connection to Square's celebrated 1990s RPG era.
