Start your journey in Aspertia City, where former rival Cheren has taken on a new role as a Gym Leader, then travel through familiar territory that has been reshaped by time and new events. From the bustling streets of Virbank City to the mysterious return of Team Plasma, this Nintendo DS RPG turns a familiar region into a new playground filled with new Trainers, new Pokémon, and unexpected twists.

White 2 is packed with activities that stretch well beyond the traditional Gym Badge journey. At Pokéstar Studios, you can star alongside your Pokémon in customizable movies, choosing dialogue and battle moves that can send each production toward different outcomes. Visit Join Avenue to develop a growing shopping district, pursue more than 250 Medals, or step into the Pokémon World Tournament and challenge legendary Gym Leaders and Champions from across the Pokémon series. With so many optional diversions, Unova feels less like a route to the Pokémon League and more like a region worth exploring on its own terms.

For collectors, Pokémon White Version 2 is especially notable because it represents a rare moment when the Pokémon series returned to an existing world and treated it as the foundation for an entirely new adventure. White 2 preserves the version-specific personality of White while introducing new locations, changed characters, an expanded Pokémon roster, and activities that simply weren't part of the original journey. The combination of White Kyurem, White's connection to White Forest, Pokéstar Studios, the Pokémon World Tournament, and the continuing Unova story makes this a standout centerpiece of the Generation V Nintendo DS library.

Gameplay Features

Begin in Aspertia City and explore a dramatically changed Unova two years after the original adventure.

Visit Virbank City and step inside Pokéstar Studios to create your own Pokémon movies.

Choose scripts and battle moves in Pokéstar Studios productions that can lead to different movie outcomes.

Build up Join Avenue into a bustling in-game shopping destination filled with useful services and items.

Challenge classic Gym Leaders and Champions in the Pokémon World Tournament across multiple battle formats.

Use the Key System to unlock special options, including alternate difficulty settings and other world changes.

Legacy and Influence

Pokémon White Version 2 was an important experiment for Game Freak because the team deliberately avoided making the sequel feel like another revised version of the same game. The developers changed towns, characters, available Pokémon, and the story while keeping the same underlying Unova world, creating an experience where returning players could recognize familiar places while constantly discovering what had changed. That approach helped establish a genuine sense of continuity rarely seen in the mainline Pokémon series before this generation.

The game's collection of side activities also pushed Pokémon beyond its traditional RPG structure. Pokéstar Studios was specifically conceived as something different from collecting, battling, communicating, and trading, while the Pokémon World Tournament turned characters from earlier generations into opponents within the new Unova adventure. The result was a sequel that connected Pokémon's past and present through playable content while giving Generation V an unusually broad range of activities.

Historical Trivia or Fun Fact

Pokémon White Version 2 was released in 2012 and marked the first time Game Freak used a numbered sequel for a core Pokémon adventure. The developers originally considered continuing the series' familiar pattern of an enhanced third version, but chose “2” specifically to signal that this was a new game with a new story. The sequel's unusual approach even extends to its world-building: familiar characters return in changed roles, while locations such as Aspertia City and Virbank City provide new starting points for exploring Unova.

Additional Details

Variant: Standard Release

Genre: RPG

Year Released: 2012

Publisher: Nintendo

Developer: Game Freak

ESRB Rating: E - Everyone

UPC: 045496742034

SKU: 33362

Format: Nintendo DS Video Game Cartridge (Authentic physical release)

Platform: Nintendo DS System (DS Handheld Console)

Region: NTSC (North America, Canada)

Important Information

Nintendo DS cartridges play on: All Nintendo DS systems, plus all Nintendo 3DS and 2DS systems.

*Used cases may be replaced with a new aftermarket one if damaged. Listing above indicates if it's "OEM/Original" or "Aftermarket." Aftermarket cases typically differ in color &/or build quality from original Nintendo DS cases.
